Why Beautycounter?

As you know, a healthy lifestyle is something I truly value. And I like to help, motivate and encourage others to do the same. I always stress the importance of wholesome ingredients when it comes to your food. I wholeheartedly believe it is important to focus on the quality of ingredients, especially in today’s world where there are so many additives like hidden pesticides, chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, etc. You get the idea!

But what a lot of people don’t realize is that there is a whole other area that affects our health, beyond nutrition and those are our lifestyle choices. And by that I specifically mean our cleaning products & our personal care products (makeup, skincare, sunscreen, anything you put on your skin).  Ironically enough, me being so hyper aware of what we put into our bodies never thought to think about what we were putting on our skin.

I never even thought to look until I found Beautycounter.  At first, it was just a solution to my breakout prone skin. I was desperate for a good skincare routine, and was so happy when I found these products. I am being 100% honest with you when I say this, my skin has never looked better. Naturally, I started looking into the company and their mission. Needless to say, I was both shocked and enraged by what I learned...here are a few facts that jumped out at me:

  • The U.S. has not passed a federal law to regulate the beauty industry since 1938!

  • The European Union bans 1400 harmful ingredients that are known endocrine disruptors (cause hormonal imbalance), linked to cancer, infertility, neurotoxocity and those are just to name a few. The U.S. bans 30.

  • Only 10% of the chemicals used in the U.S. have any safety data because the FDA does not require full disclosure when it comes to many ingredients.

  • 95% of popular lipsticks contain led.

  • The average number of cosmetic chemicals found in the bodies of teenage girls is 15.

So to me, this is NOT okay. And I realized that if I didn’t know this, than I was sure there are a lot of people who are oblivious as well. And I was right. As of 2018, 80% of Americans have no idea there are unsafe or questionable ingredients in the products we use every day.

My Why:

At this point in my life, Stella was 7 months old and I knew I wanted to be home with her.  But I also knew I wanted to share my passion for healthy living & add value to people’s lives. This is why the business opportunity with Beautycounter made sense to me.  I already had my blog (wineabs) as a platform to offer recipes & lifestyle tips, and this would help take it all full circle. It has been a year now, and I seriously could not be happier this decision I made for both myself and my family.  I love and believe in our product and our mission. Yes, Beautycounter is a direct sales company, which is considered an MLM (multi-level marketing company). Many people are thrown off by this approach. I was too. I get it. 1000%. Like many of you, I had a negative attitude from dealing with the pushy/negative tactics of many MLMs.  This was the only reason I was hesitant to join, but I looked at it differently because this is such a different company. If you want to find out more on why we are not your typical MLM, I invite you to reach out to me directly or head to my website (wineabs.com) and head to “Why Beautycounter”. But the bottom line is we are a company that educates people on safer ingredients, we advocate for better laws in hopes of a better future, and provide a solution in the form of an amazing, safe and high performing product.

I wholeheartedly believe in this mission. The opportunity to change peoples lives both financially and in health is beyond rewarding. I am proud to be making a significant social impact while simultaneously making some $$. It is a win/win for me!
